Business & Employment Through Tourism Programme

(Leading To a QQI Level 5 Major Award in Business Administration)

Newport Local Training Initiative in association with South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC), and funded through Mayo Sligo Educational Training Board (MSLETB), is planning to roll out a new training programme commencing on April 20th 2015.

The programme is titled Business & Employment Through Tourism and is aimed at people who are looking to find employment, or perhaps set up their own business, in the Tourism sector.  The Tourism sector is the largest indigenous industry in Ireland and is continuing to grow year-on-year.  Currently Tourism employs approximately 200,000 people and the government is planning to grow this to over 250,000 in the coming years.

Newport LTI is located in a Tourism Hotspot with The Great Western Greenway on its doorstep and the natural tourist attractions of Croagh Patrick, Achill Island and the ever popular Westport close by.  The South & West Mayo region has seen a steady increase in tourism figures in the last few years and new opportunities are constantly presenting themselves.

The programme will consist of eight core modules:

1.      Business Administration Skills

2.      Bookkeeping Manual & Computerized

3.      Payroll Manual & Computerized

4.      The Internet

5.      Word Processing

6.      Reception & Frontline Skills

7.      Customer Service

The programme will be run over 44 weeks and will be run on a full time basis. It will run Monday to Thursday 9.30am to 5.00pm and from 9.30am until 12.45pm on Fridays.  Please see the attached brochure below for more information and details on how to apply.  The programme is aimed at those who are in receipt of a DSP payment and wish to re-skill or up-skill in order to find employment.  Upon successful completion of the 8 core modules learners will receive a Level 5 Major Award in Business Administration.
