Funding Update

There are some very interesting funding opportunities open for community / voluntary groups in south and west Mayo as follows:

Community Recognition Fund 2024
The funding is specifically targeted at projects that are located in cities, towns and villages that are hosting the Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and/or International Protection Applicants including towns identified for the rapid build homes programme.

The Fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community. It is separate in its objectives and scope to any other public funding streams which aim to support the development of public service needs arising from the significant number of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries. Closing date for Expressions of Interest is 3pm, Thursday 11 July 2024.

Community Centres Investment Fund 2024
Grants are available from €10,000 up to €100,000 for upgrades, renovations and refurbishments of community centres across the country, as part of a €20million fund recently announced by Minister Heather Humphreys.

All potential applicants must register as ‘users’ on the Pobal portal in advance of the application process, which will open on Monday, 29 July 2024. The closing date for applications will be Thursday, 29 August 2024.

LEADER Update 2024

The LEADER programme 2014 – 2024 has concluded. This was one of SWMDC’s most successful programmes working in partnership with Mayo Local Action Group (LAG). During this period we worked with hundreds of community volunteers and entrepreneurs to complete 176 projects with total funding of over €7.5million.

Of the €7.5million, almost €1.7million of this money would never have come into Mayo, only for our LEADER team’s hard work and experience. We secured this additional funding through the national LEADER Food Initiative and LEADER Cooperation programmes.

In keeping with our commitment to transparency, we are preparing a full list of completed projects, which we will upload on our website in the coming weeks.

The LEADER programme 2024-2027 is going through a selection process with the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) and we will post updates on our website and on social media when they are available.

If you are interested in expressing an interest in the new LEADER programme, please complete the form , HERE. Once we have your details, we will add you to our mailing list and let you know about the new LEADER programme as soon as it is open for applications.
